It almost seems wrong to begin to design tiny homes without taking a closer look at Thoreau’s Cabin on Walden Pond. It measured 10′ by 15′, cost $28.12 1/2 to build, the frame went up in May and it was ready to live in by July 4th. He lived there for two years, two weeks, and two days. It was furnished with a bed, a table, a small desk and lamp, and three chairs — “one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society.” The land was owned by his friend and mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson.
