Tiny House Living Weekly Newsletter

The other day I was on Twitter and a fellow named Nathan asked the question, Am I wrong for thinking newsletters may be antiquated? Should I even bother? I gave him my short answer on Twitter and posted a more complete answer on my personal blog. In a nutshell my answer was yes… offline newsletters are most definitely on their way out and the days are numbered for traditional online newsletters. They are being replaced by blogs and other websites that provide RSS feeds and email subscriptions. But I also realized that a free newsletter could be powered by a blog and Feedburner – a hybrid if you will.

In fact after describing my idea to Nathan I realized that tiny house world could probably benefit from a weekly newsletter. So as an experiment I’m setting up a simple blog powered newsletter called Tiny House Living. During the week as I spot great stories I’ll write up short summaries and then publish them each Wednesday morning.

If you’re looking for a simple way to see the best recent tiny house stories you can subscribe to the RSS feed or by email. I just published the first issue and as always your feedback is welcome. Over the next few issues I’ll be making refinements based on you input.

I guess it depends on who you’re targeting with your newsletter. I find that online newsletters work extremely well if you want the increase of readership from all over the globe, while a paper-based newsletter would be more suitable if you’re looking for response from the local market. In any case, I’ve enjoyed every one of your post in this here blog, and I’ll be sure to head over to your new site soon. Thanks for sharing all these wonderful things with us.

    • Thanks Lorna.

I suspect the folks that will most appreciate the newsletter are those just starting to develop a curiosity for tiny houses and those not currently using RSS. But I can also see some small house society members who are busy or infrequently online appreciating the summary.

It will be interesting to see actually how well it’s adopted.

    • Thanks Bill… I just did a careful review of printcasting.com.

Very cool service that allows you to make a PDF version for online or print of your blog (RSS specifically) content. This would be great for those looking to turn their web content into a printable pdf.

      Pros:
      -Free to the blogger/content publisher.
      -Exports nicely formatted PDF.
-Eventually will offer a revenue sharing model for the embedded advertising.

      Cons:
      -Embedded advertising.
-Ads may not be contextual to the content which isn’t good for the publisher, advertiser, or especially user.
-No email capability like http://constantcontact.com/ or http://www.myemma.com/

Thanks! I would have never known this was available.
