shed by FKDA

I spotted this beautiful shed on Shedworking. It’s available in the UK and made with premium quality materials. I really like the steep pitch, shade louvers in the eaves, simple form, and the exterior wall texture.  It’s also looks quite a bit different than many of the tiny houses I’ve seen. It’s more modern but still has a strong connection to more traditional styles.

I also reminds reminds me of the houses at Sea Ranch on the northern California coast, except that this tiny house seems much more carefully crafted. I’ve heard that those houses at Sea Ranch have had some longevity problems due to the zero roof overhang so I always question the choice to build a house with little protection for the walls. But I must admit the strong design statement it makes is attractive. If the roof, drip edge, and walls are built properly the structure should be protected, but there is little room for error.

It’s about 8.5-feet wide and 16-feet long. It’s built with FSC-certified lumber, painted with solvent/VOC free paint, and is complete with energy efficient appliances. Photovoltaic solar panels and a wood burning stove are available as options. At current exchange rates the cost runs between $30,000 and $53,000 in USD depending on finish materials and options. After looking at the materials list I can see why the price is in that range, they didn’t skimp on quality. This is one very nice shed. Photo credit FKDA.
