Kelly, I guess I am one of those people you are talking about. I don't care what others think about me doing my own thing.... my kids all think I am crazy because I want to downsize from a 14x60 mobile home to a 10x20 building... truth is, I practically live in my living room and kitchen now.. so it's not like I will be missing anything when I move into the new home..

I just found this site today, and LOVE it! It is very informative. At the present time I am turning a portable building, 10x20, into a home for myself. All materials I have used so far have been given to me and found by dumpster diving. I took windows out of a very old camper that was given to me years ago, the insulation was given to me, and a few weeks ago I tore down an old small barn and used the wood for my interior. I have already painted the walls. The more I do to the home, the more anxious I am to move into it... I live at the back of ten acres of land, surrounded by trees, and have two large ponds. I built my greenhouse out of pvc pipe, what the old timers call a "hoop house".

I LOVE THIS SITE. Love it, love it, love it. After my most recent, less than ideal relocation I realize I simply don't like a lot of space. I feel out of control and it feels too empty (or it fills up too quickly).

Please keep adding "extreme" folks like Rick to the site. I'm inspired by people who don't spend much on their housing costs (and who don't give a rat's behind what anyone thinks).
